There is nothing worse than finding cheap flowers but without cheap flower delivery. When you order flowers at a discounted rate, you expect the flower delivery charge to be cheap as well. However, this is not the case in many instances.



Flowers can range in price anywhere from a few dollars for a couple stemmed beauties to a couple hundred dollars for a bundle of the rarest blossoms in the world. Either way, as a consumer, you expect to be able to have affordable if not cheap flower delivery after you have paid for the flowers.



Many florists make up the difference in their profits by adding additional charges to the delivery fees. When a florist purchases a bulk order of flowers at a set price and the florist across the street has purchased the same flowers, but at a lower price, the competition is able to sell their flowers at a lower price. This act in turn forces the other florist to lower their price of the flowers as well, either greatly reducing their profit margin of obliterating it altogether.



When this happens, the florist is forced to mark up fees elsewhere, such as charging for accompanying cards, ribbons, bows or delivery. Delivery is usually a prime target for markup because buyers only focus on the cost of the flowers. If the advertisement says "one dozen roses $10.99", people will flock to the shop ordering several dozen roses just because they are so cheap, but fail to look at the delivery charge of $9.95. This keeps the florist from losing money on the bulk flowers that were marked down.



As you order your flowers and expect cheap flower delivery, remember the type of flowers you order will play a role in the delivery charge. Flowers that are extremely delicate to touch or to sun, may require more personalized shipping. Flowers like orchids demand a certain atmosphere and a more spacious place to rest in a vehicle than a bundle of carnations. The florist may be able to send the company car out to deliver carnations, but the delivery truck or van will have to carry the orchids.



When placing your floral order, you should ask about cheap flower delivery as well. Be purposeful about asking questions regarding delivery fees for your floral arrangement before purchasing the flowers. Even if the flowers were on sale, don't become the victory of highway robbery because of the outrageous delivery charges.
